ASHBURY TROPICS WOMEN
FOUNDED: 2016 HKFC10s: Debut HIGHLIGHTS: Cup sem-finalists (Dubai 7s interna- tional open)
Tropics 7s first launched in 2016 between 8 mates looking to play rugby 7s in the summer off season and share in the community that came with it. Fast forward to 2023, Tropics has evolved into a thriving club centred around sport and the social change
it inspires, with the same sense of community we fostered in 2016. The club has representation of 15+ nationalities including capped players for England, Wales, Scotland, Australia, Samoa, GB, Jamaica, Philippines, Austria and the Netherlands. From its 100+ membership, 48.8% of members are female across rugby sevens and netball; future plans
include expanding into functional fitness & hockey
in 2023. Off the pitch the club is actively involved
in organising the Jungle Sevens festival, the North (UK’s) biggest sport & music festival and running the Sevens Academy – an initiative tasked with creating an accessible pathway into playing sevens in the UK. Coached by Heather Fisher, and made up of a mixture of elite players from across the world, our mission is
to become one of the UK’s most competitive outfits while still retaining the same sense of club community we fostered in our inception – whilst having the most off-field positive impact we can.
